Understanding insomnia

Chronic insomnia is not simply a bad night repeated. It is a self-sustaining cycle in which effort to sleep, daytime worry about sleep and a dysregulated body clock keep the brain aroused at exactly the wrong hours. Poor sleep worsens depression, anxiety, ADHD and pain — and those conditions in turn worsen sleep. We treat insomnia as its own diagnosis: identifying the drivers, applying behavioural sleep methods that have the strongest long-term evidence, and considering additional treatment options carefully when they are genuinely needed.
